January is a time for New Year’s resolutions and taking action to meet your goals. If you have been intending to improve your English, you can now take advantage of a free, local, and convenient option!
Piedmont Adult School is offering free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. These classes are designed to help non-native English speakers increase their skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and pronunciation. All levels are welcome, and lessons are tailored to individual needs.
“We are excited to offer these state-funded English classes to the community, to help students achieve their academic, professional or personal goals,” says Shannon Fierro, director of Piedmont Adult School. “By offering both morning and late afternoon classes, we hope to serve as many students as possible.”
Classes are taught by instructor Michelle Mazzeo, a credentialed Piedmont teacher who holds a California bilingual authorization. Prior to teaching for Piedmont, Mazzeo taught English learners and adult refugees in Washington D.C. for two years. She has also worked abroad in Costa Rica and Uganda.
“I love seeing the camaraderie among the students in my classes, as well as the increased confidence they get from improving their command of English,” says Mazzeo.
ESL classes will start the week of January 10, 2023. Registration for ESL classes is available during the first class session. For more information, please email mmazzeo@piedmont.k12.ca.us. To register for other Piedmont Adult School classes, visit piedmontadultschool.org, or call (510) 594-2655.
