The Blotter | Semiautomatic gun found in stolen vehicle

A man was arrested outside of Ace Hardware after parking a reportedly stolen vehicle in the parking lot. The incident happened around 3 p.m. on Nov. 17.

The city’s Automated License Plater Reader system (ALPR) recorded a hit on a blue 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer entering the city of Piedmont on Grand Avenue at Wildwood Avenue. The vehicle was then found unoccupied in the Ace Hardware parking lot.

A suspect was detained leaving the store. He was searched, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan, and suspected methamphetaime was found. The vehicle was searched and a “Glock-like semiautomatic pistol ghost gun” was found with 21 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, according to Captain Monahan.

Robert Nava (born 1981) was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon in a car with previous felony convictions, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of methamphetamine.

On Nov. 8, a van was stolen from Bonita Avenue in Piedmont. The red 2009 Ford 250 was reported taken at 2:18 p.m., with the reporting individual saying it was taken in the past 30 minutes. The van was located on Cambridge Way at 2:24. Two suspects, described as Hispanic males, were seen on foot headed toward Grand. A possible suspect vehicle was identified as a white BMW 3 series station wagon. That was also reported to be a stolen vehicle.

The suspects are still outstanding with no further information, according to Captain Monahan.
