The Giving Campaign celebrates a successful Giving Tuesday

Piedmont’s schools’ largest annual fundraiser is in the home stretch – families are encouraged to donate before December 31!

On November 29, Giving Tuesday – a worldwide day celebrating generosity – was the focus throughout Piedmont. Volunteers wearing purple in support of the Giving Campaign were at every school site, and teachers made thank-you signs to express gratitude to families for their support of the Giving Campaign. Fifty families made Giving Campaign gifts or pledges during the week. Families who give by December 31, 2021, will be included in the list of Giving Campaign donors published in local newspapers.

While there are many ways to give throughout the school year, such as via the Piedmont Store during online registration, the Giving Campaign is different. As the largest annual fundraiser for Piedmont’s schools, our students and our teachers depend on funds from the Giving Campaign to fill a variety of gaps that federal, state, and local funding sources don’t cover. This year, that gap is $2,140 for every child in the PUSD. The Giving Campaign funds small class sizes, classroom support and wellness, AP classes, STEAM education, libraries, music, and arts – the “extras” that make the difference between a good education and a great one.

In other Giving Campaign news, the grade-level participation competition is still in full swing – the grade with the most families participating will receive a family taco truck party in early 2022. Participation is just above 50% for the entire parent community; however, the younger grades are far ahead in their giving. Kindergarten is in first place, with 68% of families participating. First-grade families are hot on their tail, with 67% participation, and TK families are close behind, with 63% of families participating. Giving Campaign co-chair Colleen Allan says, “We are calling on all families to join us in giving – it’s not what you, it’s that you give. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. We’d love to see 100% participation.”

To celebrate the Piedmont community’s support for the Giving Campaign, on Monday, December 13, the Giving Campaign team will host a hot cocoa party from 3:00 – 4:00 PM at the Exedra vase in Piedmont Park as a thank you to all the families who have donated. All are welcome.

As our joyful holiday season unfolds and the end of this challenging year nears, please join your community in making your family’s gift to support Piedmont’s students and schools.
