A baby was fine after its stroller was hit by a car that was failing to yield to a pedestrian pushing the stroller.
The accident happened Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. The pedestrian was crossing in the crosswalk at Grand and Wildwood avenues when the driver failed to yield. The stroller was hit and the baby suffered a cut lip, according to Piedmont police Capt. Chris Monahan.
Also on Nov. 30, a single-vehicle accident happened on La Salle Avenue. Piedmont police responded at 9:45 a.m. to the accident on the berm near Hampton Road. A female driver was found in the vehicle. According to Monahan, police found signs of impairment with the driver, Tonia White (born 1977 in Oakland). Field sobriety tests were administered and a Preliminary Alcohol Screening device was used. Based on the results, White was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
On Dec. 1, a dog was apparently abandoned on Huntleigh Road. A report came in at 8:34 a.m. that someone driving a gray Honda SUV stopped, took the dog out of the vehicle and left it, made a U-turn and drove off. The person was described as a heavily built Hispanic male. The dog was described as a mid-size white “labradoodle-type.”
The dog has been taken to the Berkeley animal shelter. As of Dec. 7, no owner has been found. It will be available for adoption starting Dec. 8, according to Monahan.
