On September 14, 2021, there will be an election to determine whether the Governor of the State of California should be recalled (removed) from office as well as to choose his successor should he be recalled.
The recall ballot will ask two questions:
1) Do you want to recall the Governor (remove him from office)?
- If 50% or more vote NO, the governor would remain in office.
- If more than 50% vote YES, the governor would be removed from office and the person with the most votes on the second question would replace him.
2) If the governor is recalled, who do you want to replace him?
- Voters can select one of the candidates listed on the ballot or write in a candidate who has qualified for the ballot.
Voters can vote on either one or both parts of the recall ballot. More information on the recall process is available on the Secretary of State’s website.
