On Monday the Piedmont Unified School District emailed families and updated the district website to reflect a new deadline and provide more details about a new law that allows any student who was enrolled in high school during the last academic year to switch a letter grade received in any course to pass/no pass without impacting their GPA.
“AB-104 provides learning recovery options for students who struggled with low grades as a result of distance learning during the pandemic,” the district said.
Under the law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in July, students may retroactively change course grades for either fall or spring semesters or both. A request form is available on the district website.
Additionally, all University of California and California State University institutions and 15 private colleges and universities will accept, for admissions purposes, transcripts with a pass/no pass grade instead of a letter grade for the 2020–21 through 2023–24 school years.
The new, updated deadline to submit grade change applications to the school district is Friday, Aug. 27, 2021.
