Emergency Drought Declaration – Conserve Water

Additional water conservation resources are listed below:
- Track and Manage Your Water Use. EBMUD has a tool to track your water usage, receive notifications of potential leaks and high use, and save money.
- Free Water Conservation Products. It’s easy to save water with free water conserving faucets, aerators, showerheads and hose nozzles. Businesses may request free drought items to encourage their customers to conserve.
- Drought Resistant Landscaping. Select plants that don’t require a lot of water – think succulents, cacti, low maintenance flowers, native plants – and group by moisture requirements. Plants that require more water should live next to one another. Use rain barrels or other grey water features to save water and use it for plants. Consider using a drip irrigation system instead of an overhead sprinkler.
- Greywater Systems and Rain Cisterns. Greywater systems are a way to utilize water multiple times in your home. Greywater is water from indoor sources that is captured and reused. Piedmont resident, Herb Canada, shared this about his recent rainwater cistern, “It’s a 1200 gallon tank in the ground, just for irrigation purposes. It captures groundwater and rainfall. It feels good to be saving water, and it doesn’t take long to fill up.” Herb reports that on a rainy day, the tank can fill up in two hours.
