Girls’ sports program to boost leadership, self-esteem

It’s no surprise that girlx who play sports have better standardized test results than non-athletes. Or that girlx go on to earn up to 7% higher annual wages than their non-athlete peers.

The Piedmont Recreation Department (PRD) is dedicated to promoting girlx in sports. PRD is creating a series of programs that utilize sports as a way of engaging girlx, developing their leadership skills and boosting their self-esteem. Try (it) Out Tuesdays is designed to get girlx involved in sports in a fun and supportive environment.

  • Dates: July 13, 20 & 27
  • When: 5:45 – 7:45 PM
  • Where: Linda Beach Playfield
  • FREE!

The Tuesday evenings will offer a variety of different sports for girlx to try:

  • July 13 – Ultimate Frisbee + Track/Field
  • July 20 – Flag Football + Volleyball
  • July 27 – Rugby + Basketball

No matter their skill level, girlx ages 5 to 12 will have the opportunity to try various hands-on activities for each sport. Athletes can meet the coaches, ask questions and learn about opportunities in their community.

Advanced registration is preferred – https://piedmont.ca.gov/recreation

*To ensure that our community is inclusive and equitable, we are intentionally using an ‘x’ in girlx to include cis, trans, non-binary, gender non-confirming, gender queer and any female-identified individuals.
