I was surprised to receive in the mail from Adam Hundt’s campaign a flier contending that his apparent endorsement by the Democratic Party of Alameda County qualifies him for election to the Piedmont City Council. I think Piedmonters almost unanimously believe that partisan politics should play no part in the governance of the City. My own opinion is that such an endorsement does not serve as an adequate basis for election to the City Council.
I believe that we are a city of volunteers and that voters expect their Council members to have a track record of volunteering in our schools or in many of the myriad of opportunities otherwise available for public service. It is worth noting that seeing such service causes Piedmonters to contribute cash to finance their campaigns rather than to have to rely on large infusions of their personal funds.
Fortunately the other three candidates for City Council have all volunteered in many capacities and are highly qualified for the Council (and Tom Ramsey has already ably demonstrated his qualification for such service). I encourage Hundt to seek volunteer positions around town before running for the City Council again.
I urge Piedmont voters to support the other three eminently qualified candidates — Nancy Beninati, Bill Reichle and Tom Ramsey.
