Community support fuels educational excellence in Piedmont schools

At the October meeting of the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF) Board of Directors, Interim Superintendent Donald Evans shared how lucky he felt to be able to come back to a school district that has such incredible community support. He thanked the board of the PEF for the countless hours of volunteering they do to raise funds for PUSD. These funds enable our schools to continue as one of the top school districts in California.

This is a sentiment he shared previously. At an event in 2022, Dr. Evans emphasized the unique nature of what community generosity makes possible across Piedmont’s schools. “If you go up and down the state [of California], you don’t see fully structured art programs. You don’t see structured music programs or technology programs. You don’t see fully operational libraries. Even in some of the highest achieving districts, you will not see all those things like you see here,” noted Dr. Evans.

The financial backing provided by PEF through its annual Giving Campaign directly translates into crucial classroom resources, educator salaries, and essential student services. Over 90% of PEF’s annual base grant directly supports instructor salaries and benefits, ensuring that Piedmont public schools retain educators and maintain manageable class sizes across all grade levels.

Educators throughout the Piedmont Unified School District consistently express deep gratitude for the community’s financial contributions. Funding raised through the Giving Campaign secures resources that allow teachers to focus on providing a compassionate, rigorous, and well-rounded learning environment for every student.

With a state funding gap of $2,528 per student this year, PEF relies on broad community participation to meet its annual grant commitments. The theme of this year’s Giving Campaign, “It Takes All of Us,” serves as a reminder that community investment is essential to maintaining the high standard of education that defines Piedmont.

PEF encourages every family and community member to contribute to the Giving Campaign. Contributions of any size directly touch the lives of students and empower educators to deliver an outstanding educational experience.
