The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect for much of the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend.

The advisory is for 11 a.m. Saturday through 10 p.m. Monday for most of the region besides some coastal and North Bay areas because of a forecast of inland temperatures that could reach triple digits, according to the weather service. Warm weather is also expected through next week.

Temperatures in the middle 90s to near 103 around the region are expected, according to the weather service, with overnight low temperatures expected to stay in the upper 60s to middle 70s in some parts of the region, limiting the opportunity for people to recover from the high daytime temperatures. Sunny and partly sunny skies are expected.

In Piedmont, a daytime high of 90 degrees is forecast for Saturday. Sunday expected to see temperatures of up to 87 degrees. Warm conditions will linger through Monday, with a daytime temperature of 84 degrees, forecasters reported. Overnight lows through Monday are expected to be in the low 60s.

The mercury will likely climb again as next week progresses, reaching up to 86 degrees during the day in Piedmont on Tuesday and 87 degrees on Wednesday, according to the weather service.

The weather service advises people to stay hydrated, to not leave people or pets in unattended vehicles, and to shift outdoor activity to cooler times of the day.

The Bay Area Air District issued Spare the Air alerts for Saturday and Sunday because hot weather and light winds are expected to lead to elevated pollution levels. The air district said the weather conditions are expected to produce elevated concentrations of ozone, which contributes to smog.

On Spare the Air days, outdoor exercise is advised only in the early morning hours when smog levels are lower. The pollution is particularly harmful for young children, older adults, and people with respiratory and heart conditions, according to the air district.
