Adoption story: We adopted Shamus from ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation, which is now called Joybound) in Walnut Creek. He was picked up off the street in Stockton and brought to a shelter, and then ARF picked him up from there. Tony La Russa, who was the A’s manager, started the foundation years ago. We adopted Shamus when he was a year old. He did really well coming into our home and was very easy to take care of from the start! He was so happy to be adopted. Shamus was a lot easier than my first dog, but he was a little aggressive towards my first dog around food. One time, they got into a fight about popcorn and he bit her on the ear!
Likes: Shamus loves to visit all of the Piedmont parks. He likes Piedmont Park and Dracena very much! He likes playing with little dogs, and loves labradoodles. He also likes to fetch, but he doesn’t really fetch — if you throw the ball for him, he’ll go catch it but he doesn’t bring it back, so you have to go get it from him. Lastly, Shamus likes to eat (pretty much) all types of food! His favorites are kibble and fish, like red snapper or tilapia.
Dislikes: Shamus doesn’t like bigger dogs. Shamus is also very afraid of grates and stairs. He gets very scared and jumpy around them! Lastly, Shamus doesn’t like raw spinach.
Interesting facts: Shamus remembers people very well. He can memorize certain things associated with people. For example, my son’s brakes squeak, so when Shamus hears that he gets very excited.
