The Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF) recently hosted a party to thank donors for their contributions to the Piedmont Aquatic Center. During the event, President Patty Dunlap announced that PBF’s Spring Campaign will support the City in creating a new Nature Play Area in Piedmont Park.
Karen Sullivan, PBF President during the pool campaign, recounted the Foundation’s efforts to make the aquatic center a reality. PBF was an early endorser of Measure UU, and Mayor Betsy Smegal Andersen credited this support as crucial to the bond measure’s passage. PBF contributed a total of $239,000 to the project, specifically earmarked for the drought-tolerant and native landscaping that now graces the center.

Former Mayor Valerie Matzger and Piedmont’s Park and Projects Manager, Nancy Kent, spoke about the importance of using low-water California native plants. They led donor groups around the center to view the collection and shared plans for the upcoming Nature Play Area. Located in Piedmont’s Main Park adjacent to the new swings, this project will transform an under-used section into a vibrant outdoor learning space featuring climbing logs, natural play elements and hands-on spaces where children can engage with the outdoors in meaningful ways.
A PBF brochure will be arriving at every Piedmont home soon. You can use the enclosed envelope to support the Nature Play Area or other ongoing initiatives, including the Dearing Memorial, a current focus of the City. Contributions can also be mailed to City Hall (120 Vista Ave, Piedmont, CA 94611) or made through the PBF website:
