Highlanders finish season strong

The Piedmont High School boys golf team finished the West Alameda County Conference season by taking fifth place at the WACC championships on May 4 at Monarch Bay Golf Course.

Derek Lee led the way with a one-under 70, good for fifth place in the individual championships. Jackson Van Kleeck shot a 76, followed by River Bloemker’s 81. Niko Kalamas shot 88, Riley Haines shot 90 and Henry Pfister shot 94.

The Highlanders totaled 405. Bishop O’Dowd won the team title at 355. Theron Amey led the Dragons with a 66.

Piedmont completed the regular season on April 29 when it shot a season-low 194 but finished with a pair of losses. Bishop O’Dowd shot a 181 and Alameda shot a 184.

Lee again led the way with a two-under 34. Van Kleeck and Kalamas each shot a 38. Haines, a freshman, shot a 41. Bloemker had a 43 and Alex Hattan-Kutter shot a 44.
