Incident started in Oakland, gun found in one vehicle

A road rage incident that started in Oakland ended up in Piedmont on the evening of April 26, with reports of punches thrown. A firearm was also found in one of the vehicles.

According to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan, the drivers chased each other into Piedmont. At Oakland and Grand avenues, one driver exited his vehicle and confronted the other driver. One of the drivers then drove to the Piedmont Police Department and the other followed. Both drivers then fled, according to Monahan, but were later found and declined to prosecute.

One of the vehicles was a gray Kia, and the male and female in the vehicle were detained while the vehicle was searched, according to the police log. A “triple firearm” was found, according to the log.


On April 26, a traffic stop for speeding was conducted on a 2025 Mazda sedan at Grand and Fairview avenues at 12:56 a.m., according to Monahan. He said field sobriety tests were administered and the driver failed. A preliminary alcohol screening test produced results of 0.230 and 0.220 blood alcohol level. The driver was arrested for DUI and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.


On April 29, a 2015 Honda Civic was involved in a traffic collision on Linda Ave. Piedmont police spoke to the driver outside his vehicle, according to Monahan, and he said the driver admitted to being involved in the crash. Police said he exhibited signs of being under the influence. A preliminary alcohol screening test was administered with results of 0.283 and 0.287 blood alcohol level.

The driver was arrested for DUI and taken to Highland Hospital. He refused a chemical test, according to Monahan, and a blood draw warrant was issued. The driver was cited and released to hospital staff.
