Nate Spong gets off a high set in an April match-up against Urban

Piedmont drops three matches

The Piedmont High School boys volleyball team dropped three consecutive road matches in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play. The Highlanders then posted a nonleague win over visiting Richmond on April 27, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18.

On April 20, the Highlanders fell at Bishop O’Dowd, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15. The next night, they lost at Berkeley, 25-11, 25-14, 25-22. On April 23, Piedmont lost at Castro Valley, 25-13, 25-10, 25-11.

“We knew this would be a difficult week with three road games against strong opponents,” Highlanders coach Mike Glass said. “This is a very young team, and they showed a lot of resilience – they kept up the intensity and effort. Nate Spong had his best game of the season at Berkeley before missing Castro Valley due to injury. It was good to have Luca Ceccarelli back from illness – he can play anywhere on the court.”

Piedmont will host its final home match of the year against San Leandro on April 28. The Highlanders will close the season on April 30 at Alameda. Piedmont is 6-16 on the year, 0-8 in WACC play.
