Thunderstorms are in the weekend forecast

The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Friday calls for up to 90 percent chances of showers throughout Friday and continued rainfall through the weekend.

Rain and possible thunderstorms are expected across the Bay Area as a Pacific storm system moves through the region, bringing locally heavy rain, gusty winds and the chance of small hail, forecasters said. The main band was expected to shift northeast by the afternoon, but scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue through the rest of the day.

Forecasters expected to be beneficial overall, although heavier bursts could cause minor flooding in poor drainage and urban areas.

Unsettled weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with more chances of rain and thunderstorms before a gradual warming and drying trend develops next week, according to the weather service.

On Friday, daytime highs will be mostly in the mid to high 60s along the coast, mid to high 60s around the bay, and and mid 60s to low 70s inland. Overnight lows will be in the high 40s to mid 50s.

On Saturday and Sunday daytime temperatures in Piedmont will hover around the upper 60s, with overnight lows dropping into the 40s.
