Track and Field | Swain takes 12th at Stanford

Sebastien Swain finished 12th in the boys 800 meters at the Stanford Invitational on April 4. Swain competed against a strong field, finishing in one minute, 56.21 seconds. Willow Glenn’s Noah Tally won the race in 1:53.81. Carlmont’s super freshman Simon Gehrke was second in 1:54.25 and Ethan Feeser of San Luis Obispo third in 1:54.49. Swain, a junior, just missed out on 11th place where Jonathan Rath of Maria Carrillo ran a 1:56.19.

Meantime, at the Dave Shimansky Memorial Pole Vault Invitational at San Ramon Valley, Piedmont’s Avedis Gourjian was sixth in the boys event at 11 feet, six inches. Connor Maurice of San Ramon Valley won the event at 14-10.

Shayna Chau finished eighth in the girls event at 8-0. Miranda Howeth of Dublin won at 11-0 followed by her teammate Sinnie Huo at 10-0.

On April 1, Piedmont participated in a three-way meet with Alameda and San Leandro. Claire Aubrecht won the girls 100 in 12.68 and the 200 in 26.53. Skylar Best took the 800 in 2:28.53. Gladwin Horsley won the 300 hurdles in 53.93. Andrea Martin and Uzoma Iroh went 1-2 in the shot put at 32-1 and 30-4 ½, respectively. Iroh came back to win the discus at 106-3, a personal-best.

Maddox Ma won the boys 400 in 51.45. Raiden Holt claimed the 110 hurdles in 17.77, the high jump at 5-4 and the triple jump at 40-7 ¼. Ovie Ojo won the 300 hurdles in in 45.25. Colby Hong won the discus at 123-8.
