The Piedmont High School softball team had a truly ridiculous pair of games, beating San Lorenzo, 35-30, then hammering Urban-San Francisco, 22-11.
The win at San Lorenzo came on April 2. The final line scores were astounding: Piedmont 35 runs, 16 hits, 16 errors; San Lorenzo 30 runs, 15 hits, six errors.
Highlander Talia Perl was three for three with three hits and four walks with two RBI in seven plate appearances. She also had three stolen bases. Hannah Joerger was three for five with four RBI and three runs scored. Teah Suhr was two for six with four RBI and three runs scored. Kajsa Benson was two for six with four RBI and two runs scored. Elly Mak was two for three with four RBI and four runs scored. Samantha Schey was two for three with three runs scored and two RBI.
For the Grizzlies, Ellie Ream went five for seven with seven RBI and six runs scored. Samantha Rodriguez was three for five with five runs scored and five RBI. Ashley Contreras was three for seven with three runs scored and an RBI. Madison Pareja was two for four with six runs scored and an RBI.
The teams combined for 22 walks. San Lorenzo had a 13-run third to go up 17-3. Piedmont had a 12-run fourth and a 16-run sixth to go up 32-21. The Grizzlies scored five in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game going.
On April 3, the Highlanders beat host Urban in a slightly less insane game. Edie Elmquist went two for two with five runs scored and two RBI to lead the Piedmont offense. Mak went three for four with three runs scored and an RBI. Benson scored four runs while going one for one. The Highlanders scored 12 runs in the top of the sixth to claim the game on the mercy rule.
On April 1, Piedmont lost at home to St. Mary’s-Albany, 10-4. A seven-run third broke open a 2-1 game for the Panthers. Joerger, Benson and Penelope Hopper each had a hit for the Highlanders.
On March 31, Piedmont lost at Berean Christian, 15-2 in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Joerger went two for three to lead the Highlanders offense, which managed just four hits. Delaney Smith went two for three for the Eagles with four RBI. Emma DeCarlo went one for two with a home run and five RBI.
Piedmont (8-6) is off until April 15 when it will host Tennyson.
