The City Council has selected 19 Piedmont residents to serve in appointed volunteer positions, following interviews with applicants on March 23. For most Committees and Commissions, appointees officially began their term of service on April 1.
The appointees, selected from a pool of 23 applicants, include 6 new Commission and Committee members and 13 returning volunteers.
The following residents were appointed (new appointees marked in bold):
- Budget Advisory & Financial Planning Committee*: Murat Bozkurt, Carter Dunlap, Dave Kimball, John Mangini (alternate)
- Civil Service Commission: Lori Elefant
- Park Commission: Jack Fischrup, Arden Hall
- Planning Commission: Michael Beuselink, John Cooper, Francoise Putting (alternate), Wayne Rowland
- Public Safety Committee: Deborah Dinerman, Marie Retherford
- Recreation Commission: Nancy Beninati, Chris Hart, Sara Ironside, John O. Tulloch
- Parking Hearing Officer: Matthew Goldstein
- Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District: Ted Kinch
Commissioners serve three-year terms, with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
The City will hold a Volunteer Appreciation reception in the City Hall courtyard at 4:45pm on Monday, April 20 to recognize outgoing Commissioners, Betty C. Howard honorees, and the 2026 Volunteer of the Year and Young Volunteer of the Year awards.
One vacancy remains for Parking Hearing Officer
The City is still seeking a volunteer to fill one remaining vacancy for a Parking Hearing Officer. This position serves as an Administrative Hearing Officer for appeals of parking tickets issued by Piedmont Police, and is a good fit for someone with a legal background.

Everyone welcome at Commission and Committee meetings
Everyone is welcome to attend and participate at Commission and Committee meetings. Attendees may offer comments on any individual agenda item, and also have an opportunity to speak on issues of general interest during the “Public Forum” period at the beginning of each meeting.

- Meeting agendas are published on the Commission or Committee webpage 72 hours before the meeting.
- Planning Commission, Recreation Commission, and Park Commission meetings are broadcast on the City’s cable channel, KCOM-TV (Comcast channel 27). These meetings are also live-streamed online and available for later on-demand viewing at piedmont.ca.gov/MeetingVideos.
