The Blotter | Suspect attempts to run person over

A suspect driving a gray Kia allegedly repeatedly attempted to run over a man on the morning of March 24. The report came in at 7:59 a.m. on Monticello Avenue.

The victim said he witnessed an auto burglary in progress and attempted to intervene, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan. He said the victim reported that the suspect got back in his vehicle and attempted to run the victim over “several” times. Then, Monahan said, the suspect exited his vehicle and used a baseball bat to knock the driver’s side mirror off the victim’s vehicle.

Monahan said a neighbor witnessed the attack.

The suspect fled in the Kia, which had been involved in a hit-and-run on Moraga Avenue prior to this incident. The Kia hit a parked motorcycle according to the police log.

The Kia was found and was towed as evidence, according to Monahan. The investigation is ongoing.


On March 23, a stolen bicycle worth $400 was reported. The incident happened at Havens Elementary School. The reporting party said his son parked the bicycle in a rack at the school at 3 p.m. on March 20. The parent returned with his son at 8:30 a.m. on March 23 and found the White Giant Teal mountain bike with 24-inch-off-road tires and gold pedals missing. The loss is estimated at $400.


Also on March 23, police responded to a request for a welfare check on a man sitting in a white BMW parked on Olive Avenue at 4:58 p.m. The report came in that the man was arguing on the phone with someone.

Police arrived and did a warrant check and found the man was on probation for grand theft and DUI. A search of the vehicle produced suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools, according to Monahan. He said the suspect was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and placed on a probation hold.
