Piedmont playing well in WACC

Piedmont High School’s boys tennis team worked its way through the West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play, taking three of four matches.

On March 19, the Highlanders won at Berkeley, 4-3, thanks to sweeping the singles matches. Lucas Smolko beat Mason Antin at No. 1, 6-0, 6-3. Nate Welch defeated Eric Zhang at No. 2, 6-3, 6-1. Ari Moscovitz downed Dash Jackson at No. 3, 6-0, 6-4. Emilio Misra beat Otter Canychao at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Berkeley’s Will Herndon and Julius Braun outlasted Joey Assalian and Ben Davis at No. 1, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10. Henry Andreini and Asa Frydman beat Henry Van Den Bos and August Collins at No. 2, 6-0, 7-6 (5). Evan Cobigo and Vole Guersten defeated Maximo Miller and Hunter Fasteau at No. 3, 6-0, 7-5.

On March 24, Piedmont lost at Bishop O’Dowd, 4-3. The Highlanders took three of four singles matches but again were swept in the doubles. Smolko beat Marcello Sachelari at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3. Moscovitz defeated Suriyan Sokol at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4. Misra downed James Hollins at No. 4. The Dragons got a key win at No. 2, where Mateen Leclair beat Welch, 6-3, 6-1.

Bishop O’Dowd’s Noah Amanuel and Dhilan Belur overpowered Assalian and Davis at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1. Oliver Liao and Lucas Tanaka won by the same scores over Miller and Fasteau at No. 2. Enzo Dehlenglulio and Jack Gonzalez beat Van Den Bos and Collins at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1.

On March 25, Piedmont swept Hayward at Hayward, 7-0. Misra dominated Evin Griggs at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Assalian did the same to Felix Ruiz  at No. 2. As did Davis to Walter Vega-Vasquez at No. 3. Ethan Hammond beat Clip Howell Mediran at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.

Van Den Bos and Collins beat Paul Duenas and George Malcolm Senegal at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 7-5. Carter Brookfield and Adam Quibelan swept Damian Rohl and Jose Munoz at No. 2, as did Diego Kunke and Elias Reed-Miguel over Dani Guerra and Andres Zamudio at No. 3.

On March 26, Piedmont defeated Alameda at home, 6-1. Smolko handled Eddie Luo at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Welch beat Jack Thornton at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. Moscovitz downed Logan Mevoli at No. 3, 7-5, 6-4. Misra defeated Keenan Chan at No. 4, 6-4, 6-3.

Assalian and Davis beat James Chea and Remi Banducci at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-2. Miller and Fasteau defeated Tyler Chin and Johnny Sanchez at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4.

Piedmont was scheduled to play College Prep at home on March 31. The Highlanders will be off until April 13.
