Piedmont High School’s boys volleyball team took fourth place in its division at the Livermore Volleyball Roundup on March 14.
The Highlanders won all three of their matches in Division 2, then dropped two in the playoffs. “As a team we’re happy with the progress,” Piedmont coach Mike Glass said. “(Going) 3-2 and fourth in our division shows growth and improvement. We were disappointed not to win one or both of our afternoon matches but taking eventual champ Miramonte to three sets shows how close we were.”
The Highlanders opened with a 22-25, 25-11, 15-9 win over Quarry Lane-Dublin. That was followed by a 25-17, 25-15 win over South San Francisco. Then came a 25-16, 26-24 victory over Capuchino-San Bruno.
Going undefeated in the 12-team division placed Piedmont in the top playoff bracket.
Miramonte beat the Highlanders, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9. Quarry Lane then came back to defeat Piedmont in the third place match, 25-23, 26-24.
On March 17, Piedmont lost to Bishop O’Dowd in straight sets in a West Alameda County Conference match.
