Track & Field | Piedmont sweeps Castro Valley

The Piedmont High School track teams swept visiting Castro Valley at Witter Field on March 11. For the girls team, its 64-63 win was its first over the Trojans in at least a decade, according to coach Pouyan Assadi.

The Highlanders boys won 78-39.

Claire Aubrecht won the 100 and 200 meters, setting a school record of 26.24 seconds in the latter, according to Assadi. Her 100 time was 12.97.

Piedmont swept the first four places in the 3,200. Cora Brozowski Schrader led the way in 12:43.43. Amalia Gray was next in 12:55.02 followed by Skylar Best in 13:05.32 and Cora Chun in 13:26.64. Best also won the 400 in 1:04.24. Brozowski Schrader was fourth in the 800. Leighton Mand was second in 2:26.53.

Saniyah Johnson and Andrea Martin went 1-2 in the shot put. Johnson had a mark of 32 feet, one inch, while Martin had a mark of 31-4 ½. Martin had a big day taking second in the discus at 85-9 and third in the high jump at 4-6.

Malia Williams won the 100 hurdles in 19.46 and was second in the high jump at 4-8. Piedmont won both relays in walkovers.

Rehan Mumtaz led the boys with a pair of wins and a second. He won the 100 in 11.39 and the long jump at 21-6. He also took second in the 200 in 23.04. Raiden Holt won the 110 hurdles in 18.06, took second in the high jump at 5-4, third in the triple jump at 38-3 ½ and fourth in the 300 hurdles in 47.74.

Sebastien Swain continued his comeback from surgery, sweeping the 800 (2:03.54) and 1,600 (4:26.52). Ben Gerber was second in the 800 in 2:11.54. Aaron Bennett and Luca LaForte went 1-2 in the 3,200 in times of 10:18.80 and 11:03.26, respectively.

Marius Arno won the 300 hurdles in 44.14. Colby Hong took the discus at 117-3. Nico French won the high jump at 5-4.
