The Blotter | Wine, champagne taken in burglary

Residence on Blair Avenue had open garage door

Approximately $700 worth of wine and champagne was taken from a residence on Blair Avenue on Feb. 28.

The burglary was reported around 9:13 p.m. According to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan, three unknown suspects entered the residence through an open garage door. He said the reported loss is four bottles of wine, two bottles of champagne and the owners manual of a 2024 Audi Q8.

The suspects fled the scene in a silver Volvo S60 with a partial license plate of 5AGW5.

Monahan said they have surveillance footage that captures part of the incident and the suspects. He said the registered owner of the Volvo is in the Crime Record Information Management System.

Captain Monahan added that the incident is under investigation.

On March 3, police in the area of Oakland Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard saw a white 2021 Tesla Model Y turning onto Oakland at 12:52 a.m. During the turn, the vehicle hit the curb at the intersection. Police said the vehicle did not stop after contacting the curb and was traveling above the speed limit.

Police pulled over the vehicle and the officer said the driver exhibited signs of intoxication including watery eyes and slurred speech. Monahan said the officer also could smell alcohol on the female driver. The officer also could see a nearly empty bottle of wine in the vehicle’s center console cupholder.

Monahan said the driver admitted to consuming alcohol. After a field sobriety test was administered, the driver refused a preliminary alcohol screening. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where breathalizer tests twice showed a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) result of 0.14 percent. She was booked for DUI.
