Highlanders drop three of four

Piedmont High School’s boys basketball team got a case of the midseason blahs, dropping three of four games. The Highlanders fell to 14-8 on the season, 2-4 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play.

On January 22, Piedmont lost at Alameda, 67-58. Beach Lorin scored 25 points to lead the Highlanders. Dillon Casey had 12 points and P.J. Brayer had 10. Once again, depth was an issue as only five Piedmont players scored.

The Hornets were led by Dylan Mann’s 19 including 11 in the fourth quarter. River Stautzenberger had 14 and Jack Omarra added 11.

Alameda took the lead in the first quarter but the Highlanders cut it to 43-40 at the end of three.

Piedmont next lost to University-San Francisco at home on January 24, 83-62. Lorin scored 19 and Casey had 15. The Red Devils used a 31-12 second quarter to blow open the game.

Lucas Lau scored 24 points to lead University. Thomas Meehleib had 17.

The Highlanders beat Castro Valley at home on January 28, 75-64. Piedmont outscored the Trojans in the third quarter, 25-9 to take control of a game that was tied 32-32 at halftime. Lorin scored 25 to lead the way with Lucas Fang Ring scoring 18, Casey tallying 15 and Brayer adding 12.

Castro Valley got four in double-figures but only five scored. Desmond Sicat led the way with 19 followed by Krishawn McGee with 14, Maadhesh Senthil with 12 and Jacob Price with 10.

On January 30, San Leandro defeated the Highlanders, 63-52 at Binks Gymnasium. Lorin scored 21 points and Casey scored 12.

Anthony Osborn led the Pirates with 17 points. Justice Middlebrooks had 15 while Davion Berry Jr. had 14. Elijah Rubio had 11 points.
