No evidence found to back up accusation
A resident on Scenic Avenue accused house cleaners of stealing $500 in a report that came in at 10:03 a.m. on Jan. 23. The alleged victim claimed $500 was missing from his wallet in his bedroom and said he suspected the house cleaners had stolen money in the past, according to the police log. The two house cleaners consented to a search and the money was not found on them, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan.
Monahan said the alleged victim then said a repair technician had been working on a refrigerator earlier.
“Due to the lack of evidence implicating the house cleaners and the presence of an unknown third person, both house cleaners were released at the scene without incident,” Monahan said.
On Jan. 20, Piedmont police found a blue Honda CRV with no license plate parked in the area of Stanley Place and Harrison Street. A VIN check showed it had been reported stolen in Oakland, according to Monahan. The vehicle was damaged and stripped, according to the police log, and was towed.
According to the police log, on Jan. 18 the curb, trees, sidewalk and the side of a residence on a two-block span of St. James Place were spray painted. No video was available and Monahan said there are no suspects at this time.
