Community Pool Q&A with city leaders on Feb. 5

Recreational staff receive training on the pool's mechanical systems.

From a City of Piedmont press release on Jan. 27

A community Q&A and listening session about the community pool project hosted by Mayor Betsy Smegal Andersen, Vice Mayor Conna McCarthy, and City Administrator Rosanna Bayon Moore will take place on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5-6:30 p.m. at 801 Magnolia Avenue.

The program will begin with a brief project status recap, then move into a moderated question and answer period.

This event is intended to give community members direct face time with city leadership, a chance to ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of commissioning before the city takes possession of the facility.

Submit questions online
To help staff prepare and ensure the topics of highest community interest are addressed, community members are encouraged to submit questions in advance HERE.

Questions submitted ahead of time, alongside those asked in the room, will help shape the discussion at the event as well as inform future project communications.

Project status: Commissioning continues
The new pool remains in integrated (“functional”) testing, the final phase of the commissioning process that began in September. During this phase, all systems are run together and monitored over multi-day windows to confirm reliable, consistent performance. When this process identifies gaps, adjustments are made and the testing and validation cycle begins again. This process takes time, but is essential to ensuring the facility is ready to serve the community safely and reliably from day one.

In parallel, Recreation Department staff are preparing for day-to-day operations, including recruitment, staff training, and program planning, including swim lessons and water aerobics.

The city is not yet able to project a specific opening date, and will continue publishing project status bulletins at least monthly until the facility opens. The next status bulletin will be published no later than Feb. 16, along with a written FAQ addressing the most common questions submitted online.

The City appreciates the community’s patience, interest, and high expectations for this long-awaited public facility and major capital investment.
