Girls soccer | Piedmont plays O’Dowd tight

The Piedmont High School girls soccer team fought a valiant fight at Bishop O’Dowd on Jan. 23 but ultimately fell, 2-0. The Highlanders are now 6-4-2, 1-2-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division
play. The Dragons, one of the top teams in California, are now 8-0, 4-0.

Bishop O’Dowd has outscored its opposition 55-0. The only other close match the Dragons have played was a 1-
0 win over Castro Valley on Jan. 8. Sadie Siedel put Bishop O’Dowd on the board in the 15th minute, making a nice spin move into a shot that found the lower left corner. In the 20th minute, the Dragons Abby Fosgren fed Chloe Keating beautifully, setting up for the second goal.

Many of the players have played with each other on club teams over the years. Keating played youth soccer in Piedmont. Another Piedmont youth player for Bishop O’Dowd was Kacey DiMarco, who marked the Highlanders Miranda Liu much of the game.

Piedmont’s defense played strong, keeping the Dragons scoreless the rest of the way. The teams will face each other again at Witter Field on Feb. 10. The Highlanders will next host Encinal on Jan. 28.
