Piedmont beats San Leandro

Piedmont High School’s boys basketball team opened West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play on January 8 with a 73-49 win at San Leandro.

Dillon Casey scored 22 points to lead the Highlanders. P.J. Brayer added 19.

“Dillon was incredible and so was P.J. Brayer,” Piedmont coach Ben Spencer said, adding that Akash Bornstein was a “spark of energy” off the bench.

Beach Lorin added 17 points.

Elijah Rubio led the Pirates with 12 points. Anthony Osborn and Justice Middlebrooks each scored 11 while Jiovanni Thompson added 10.

The Highlanders (10-2) got out strong, taking a 22-11 lead after the first quarter. They extended that to 39-22 at halftime.

San Leandro fell 9-6.

Piedmont will travel to Alameda on Jan. 10 to face St. Joseph-Notre Dame in a nonleague match. The Highlanders will face rival Bishop O’Dowd on the road on Jan. 13.
