Piedmont Adult School offers Salsa dance classes this spring

Carmela Zavaleta is an experienced Bay Area dance instructor

Piedmont Adult School will offer Salsa dance classes this spring for adults who want to learn (or build on) one of the most popular and joyful social dances in the world. Designed for beginners as well as dancers with some prior experience, these classes invite students to connect with music, movement, and community.

Salsa for Beginners is an ideal introduction for anyone who loves Latin music and wants to feel confident on the dance floor at clubs, parties, or social gatherings. Students will learn basic rhythm, footwork, and partner technique while exploring Salsa as a social dance form. No prior dance experience or partner is required, and daily practice between classes is encouraged.

For those ready to continue, Salsa for the Beginner and Intermediate Dancer builds on foundational skills with new footwork and Salsa patterns for partner dancing. The class is intended for students who have completed a four-week beginner Salsa course or who have previous experience and confidence in leading and following.

Both classes are taught by Carmela Zavaleta, an experienced Bay Area dance instructor who began her training in classical ballet before expanding into social dance styles including swing, Lindy hop, Argentine tango, and Salsa. After moving to the Bay Area in 1999, she completed the Teacher Training program at San Francisco’s Metronome Ballroom and has since taught Salsa in clubs, studios, community programs, and schools throughout the Bay Area.
