Highlanders lose in OT to host; tournament continues December 12-13.

The Piedmont High School boys basketball team lost the opening game of the Acalanes Tournament on December 11, falling in overtime to Acalanes, 80-77.

Lucian Fang Ring led the Highlanders with 19 points. Beach Lorin had 18 while Dillon Casey added 16. P.J. Brayer contributed 14 points.

Piedmont coach Ben Spencer said his team led for 31 minutes of regulation (high school games are 32 minutes long). He said the Highlanders led 68-56 with three and a half minutes to go, and 69-61 with 1:45 left. The Dons closed regulation on an 8-0 run.

“Costly turnovers down the stretch hurt us,” he said. “I’m proud of the heart and how much we battled tonight.”

Piedmont got just 10 points beyond the top four scorers.

Cameron Hood led Acalanes with 22 points, including seven in overtime. Gavin Dodge had 19 points. Julian Hood had 14 and A.J. Hastings added 10.

The tournament continues December 12-13.
