‘No Us and Them, Just Us’: An inspirational afternoon with Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J.

Oakland Catholic Worker (OCW) invites the community to “No Us and Them, Just Us:  An Afternoon with Fr. Gregory Boyle”, an inspirational event to raise essential funds for immigrant families in the East Bay. The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, followed by light refreshments and a community reception.

Fr. Gregory Boyle

Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J., Jesuit priest and founder of Homeboy Industries, is internationally recognized for his pioneering work to develop the world’s largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program based in LA, offering thousands each year the tools and community needed to begin again.

Fr. Greg’s books, including his most recent addition, “Cherished Belonging” have become bestsellers for their mix of humor, honesty, and radical compassion. His message is simple yet profound: there is “no us and them, just us”.

Through storytelling, wit, and spiritual insight, he invites audiences to imagine communities where no one stands outside the circle of compassion and belonging.

Why Oakland Catholic Worker matters

For nearly 40 years, Oakland Catholic Worker has been putting that vision into practice in East Oakland. Each week, OCW provides transitional housing, social service support, job readiness, advocacy, and one of the area’s largest food security programs — offering a human response rooted in dignity, solidarity, and compassion.

“All are welcome at this event,” said Anne Carrabino, Executive Director of Oakland Catholic Worker. “It’s a chance to hear Fr. Greg’s uplifting message and to stand in solidarity with immigrant families working toward a better future.” Don’t miss this uplifting afternoon of community and hope.
