Daley Mae Sarver Humphries, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend, passed away at home in Piedmont surrounded by family and so much love on Sunday, November 2, 2025, shortly after her 77th birthday. Daley is survived by her husband, Mike Humphries; daughters, Alisa Sarver Latvala (Rich) and Amy Sarver Engler (Jeremy); step-children, Steven Humphries (Amy) and Mary Jane Rogers (Chris); and grandchildren, Thomas, Henry, Maia, Sydney, Olivia, Eva, Aubrey, and Ella.
Born on October 13, 1948, in Oakland, California, to the parents of Anne and Marvin Blankstein, Daley attended Crocker Highlands Elementary School, and graduated from Oakland High. She was a 3rd generation UC Berkeley alumni, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
Earlier in her career she managed dental offices before completing her Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) certification. She then spent many years working for Levi Strauss & Company in Human Resources and finally at Abbott Laboratories, after which she retired to be a full time grandma, helping to raise her grandchildren. She was an incredibly engaged and nurturing grandmother who helped with everything from caring for her grandchildren as infants, to driving them to all of their activities and showering them with love, always. Her grandchildren adored their “Maea”.
Daley loved many things in life, but nothing compared to the love she had for her daughters, grandchildren, husband and family. Daley was a Mom to all and a devoted partner to Mikey, her heartthrob. Together they created a warm and loving home that became the hub for lively dinner parties with an abundance of shared laughter, sleepovers, holiday gatherings and a myriad of celebrations. Daley created a positive, warm, accepting environment where people felt comfortable being their authentic selves. Her home became a place of comfort to many.
Daley was most happy when surrounded by her family and friends, and made a point to tell her loved ones just how much she loved, cherished, and appreciated them, always finishing a conversation by saying, “I love you,” and then, “I love you more.”
She enjoyed cooking, reading, music, happy hours, game days, family gatherings, holidays and celebrations, vacations in Hawaii and traveling internationally with Mike and their lifelong friends. As a child and younger adult, she enjoyed time spent in Tahoe skiing, waterskiing, and being outdoors. She was an avid Cal fan, known for displaying her Go Bears spirit at Cal games and throughout the many years spent camping at The Lair of the Bear. She was the best mother to her daughters – unconditionally loving, empathetic, caring and encouraging. She was known as the fun and cool Mom, always welcoming and hosting many in her home with open arms. She was an animal lover through and through – many compared her to Snow White.
With a magnetic personality and vibrant sense of humor, Daley was always up for a good time, often being the last one to leave a party. Goodbyes took hours. She is known for her kindness, compassion, vibrance, sense of humor, smile, laughter, welcoming nature, and pristine skin. She will be remembered for sharing her light, love, sparkle, wit and warmth with all who knew her.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 23, at 11 a.m. at Piedmont Community Hall. We request that attendees wear something sparkly or colorful in honor of her vibrant and radiant personality and her love of sparkles.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter or food bank in honor of Daley.
