Piedmont High School’s cross country teams enjoyed more success at the West Alameda County Conference Foothill League championships on Nov. 8 at Hayward High. The girls team took second with 65 points, just behind Berkeley. Castro Valley was next with 70. Berkeley’s Carina Nottingham was the individual champion in 17 minutes, 57.96 seconds on the three-mile course.
Leighton Mand was the top Highlander finisher, taking sixth in 19:25.92. Skylar Best was ninth in 19:38.88. Amalia Gray was 14 th in 19:58.07. Cora Chun took 19 th in 20:30.94 with Cora Brozowski Schrader completing the scoring in 23rd in 20:42.70.

The boys team took fifth with 93 points. Bishop O’Dowd led the way with a terrific score of 31, 49 points in front of second place San Leandro. The Dragons Sebastian Taylor was the individual winner in 15:17.82. Aaron Bennett was eighth for Piedmont (16:28.56) and Alex Schleuning was 10 th (16:40.22). Dresden Schulte-Sasse finished 19th in 17:03.28. Devon Thai took 26th in 17:14.09 while Dylan Wallway was 30th in 17:24.79. Noah Sohn (37th , 17:40.03) and Ian Chung (40th , 18:48.84) also ran for the Highlanders.
Piedmont will advance to the NCS championships on Nov. 22 at Hayward. The Division 4 boys race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and the Division 4 girls race is scheduled for noon.
