Attention bird paparazzi: The Moraga bald eagles are not the only draw in town. Piedmont Education Foundation reports that a flock of flamingos escaped their offices last week and are now tree-hopping in Piedmont. They’re offering $25 Mulberries gift cards to the first five photojournalists who post pictures of the fugitive flamingos on Instagram and tag @piedmonteducationfund.
“Every photo helps,” says Catie Osborn, Giving Campaign co-chair. “They can’t go far, they’re plastic.” In addition to helping them locate the flamingos, PEF hopes the Instagram posts will rally the community around the 2025-26 Giving Campaign, which kicked off earlier this month with a goal to raise $5M for district schools.
This year, PEF is aiming for 100 percent participation from Piedmont families. “Our main goal is to create a strong community of proud donors,” says PEF Director Heather Frank. “Participation is vital to supporting our schools and signals a united commitment to bettering the education system for all students. When families and the broader community show up, it reinforces that we’re all in this together for the long haul.”
One hundred percent participation may seem like a stretch goal, but with contributions of any amount, the PEF believes it’s well within reach. “Every dollar helps,” says Catie Osborn. “It’s not about the donation amount, it’s about working together to better the education for all our students.”
So, go find those birds!
