Expect significant delays through the night; loud noise from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Alternate routes advised.
Traffic flow at the intersection of Oakland and Grand Avenues will be significantly impacted between 7pm and 7am on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 9 due to nighttime paving work. Community members should avoid the area and use alternative travel routes as much as possible.
Paving will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
During this period:
- The intersection will remain open, with alternating lane closures.
- There will be loud noise beginning at 7pm. Loud work should end by 10pm.
- There will be moderate construction noise between 10pm and 7am.
- The work area will be brightly lit.
The City of Piedmont and the contractor, Rapid Grading Services, are taking all possible steps to minimize impacts to the surrounding neighborhood. Performing this work at night substantially reduces the number of days needed to complete paving and avoids significant traffic impacts when roads are most heavily traveled.
With intersection paving, Grand Avenue safety project nears completion
Paving at the Oakland/Grand intersection is among the final steps of a $1.5 million roadway improvement and bicycle/pedestrian safety project along Grand Avenue.
The project includes:
- Pedestrian safety enhancements (bulb-outs, flashing beacons, and high visibility striping) at the Grand/Linda and Grand/Greenback intersections;
- A bicycle turn box with flashing beacon push button at the Grand/Linda intersection • ADA compliant curb ramps at all street crossings;
- Bulb-out islands and a landscaped bioswale at Grand and Fairview – Piedmont’s first “green infrastructure.”
These improvements are part of the ongoing implementation of the City’s 2021 Safer Streets Plan, which identified the Grand/Linda and Grand/Greenbank intersections as two of the top ten priority locations for pedestrian safety improvements citywide.
