A comment made by Fire Captain Mike Carlisle in the Planning Meeting of 10/08/25 that the Specific Plan “makes it safer from fires because of the street widening and controlled intersections.” It is beyond imagination to think that widening a small part of Moraga Ave around Blair Park will make it safer; the road begins and ends in Oakland and it is two lanes on both ends. They have mentioned a “third lane”, which would actually be the bike lane which bikers and pedestrians would use to flee. How is that safer?
Stopping Sight Distance (SSD) for a crosswalk at Red Rock Rd was determined by Caltrans in 2010 for the proposed soccer fields development to be unsafe. How is it safer now?
Moraga Avenue is a very narrow, curving street with many chokepoints which make it impossible to clearly see pedestrians crossing the road. An emergency evacuation would be catastrophic as all emergency vehicles would be using the same two lanes as the fleeing cars from Oakland and Piedmont. We Oaklanders have been kept in the dark throughout the process and we are affected more than anyone. This is not safe!
