Letter to the Editor | Dog owners should know better

Dog owners are required to pick up waste in the parks.

I continue to be shocked by the number of thoughtless people who do not pick up after their pet’s poop. Too often I see a bag or more lying on the sidewalk or along a trail. How hard is it to carry it until the next garbage can? But in the parks I get even more upset.

Yesterday we were walking in the Piedmont Park along Bushy Dell Creek. From the bottom of the hill by the softball field up to the steep steps I saw 15 piles on the path or just off. I only had two bags and they were for my dog.  So I kicked them out of harm’s way and covered them with dirt and leaves.  At minimum, can’t owners do that if they forgot or used up their bags?

A suggestion that might help. I think the only bag dispenser is behind the community center. Why not one at each major entrance to the park?  The same at Dracena.
