Crews prep pool site for water fill next week

City of Piedmont

Planting is underway at the competition pool.

In an update on Tuesday, the city says the new activity and competition pools are close to being filled with water, marking a big milestone in the multi-year project. A pre-fill walkthrough with the Alameda County Department of Environmental Health is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 27, the city said. If all goes well, the city said it will start plastering and filling the pools on Sept. 2 — a three-day process that will set the stage for commissioning, the period of time allocated to testing and balancing the pool complex’s state-of-the-art, all-electric system.

An opening date for the public is still to be determined and is contingent on how the commissioning process goes.

The city shared photos of the site taken on Monday, Aug. 25 that show the completed building exteriors and finishing touches like pool grab rails, diving boards, and lifeguard seating that are now in place. Fencing went up around the site this weekend and the building interior was cleaned in preparation for furniture that’s expected to arrive this Friday.

This week’s priority tasks include planting. Everything has to be planted before the pools can be filled, the city said, or dirt particles could damage the plaster as it cures.
