The SPCA Monterey County Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center recently set a new record, caring for 172 rescued wild animals in a single day, which is the highest number in its history, the organization announced last week.
As of Wednesday, the center was treating 133 injured, sick, or orphaned animals, including raccoons, hawks, owls, skunks, rabbits, and numerous songbirds and seabirds, SPCA noted.
The nonprofit’s staff and volunteers are working around the clock to feed and care for the animals, with baby birds requiring feedings every 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The SPCA Wildlife Center is the only full-service wildlife rescue facility in Monterey County and operates independently of national organizations. The group credits donor support for making its efforts possible.
