Fares for Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District customers will increase by up to 50 cents starting Tuesday.
Base tolls for the Golden Gate Bridge will increase by 50 cents, pushing FasTrak rates from $9.25 to $9.75. Base fares for most Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry riders will also increase by 25 cents.
Discount fares will remain in effect for seniors, youth, Clipper users, people with disabilities and low-income riders, the district said.
The increases are part of the district’s five-year toll and fare program to fund bridge maintenance, operations and transit services as it battles a projected $220 million shortfall in the same time.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the district says ridership has yet to fully return to pre-pandemic levels.
Ferry ridership is down approximately 30% and bus ridership by 50%, the district said in a statement.
The district said it previously adjusted service to reduce expenses but plans to add services back as customers return.
