Highlander athletes compete in Eugene
Members of Piedmont High School’s track and field team competed at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at the rebuilt Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon on June 19-22.
All Piedmont results come from the Emerging Elite division, the second of multiple divisions.
Miguel Long extended his school record in the boys triple jump, finishing fourth at 45 feet, 10 ½ inches. Long just completed his senior season for the Highlanders. His previous best of 45-8 ½ came at the Stanford Invitational in April.

The girls 400-meter relay team of Nia Kim, Ella Yasar, Kyla Williams and Claire Aubrecht (at top) finished fourth in 49.73 seconds, a school-record, breaking the time of 50.06 the foursome ran at the North Coast Section Bayshore Championships in May.
Piedmont also competed in the girls 1,600 and girls 3,200 relays. The 1,600 team of Kim, Aubrecht, Daniella Lucaccini and Yasar finished 22nd overall in a time of 4:10.15. The 3,200 team of Nikita Gorelik, Skylar Best, Caroline Taylor and Leighton Mand finished 17th in 10:09.36.

The Nike Outdoor Nationals is one of multiple postseason high school meets where many schools compete after the regular season of sport for track and field ends. Schools have to reach qualifying marks to enter.
Long will continue his track career at Chico State while Kim will continue hers at UC Santa Cruz.
