Suspect said he was drinking and using while watching sports

A man was arrested for DUI on April 29 after being pulled over for multiple vehicle code violations, according to the Piedmont Police Department. The suspect was seen driving a white BMW M240i on Grand Avenue at 11:55 p.m.

Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan said police saw the vehicle weaving out of its lane. The officer then got behind the BMW and paced it at 35 mph, which was over the speed limit. The vehicle was pulled over.

At the stop, the officer observed signs of intoxication, according to Captain Monahan, and a preliminary screening test recorded BAC levels of 0.229 and 0.217 percent. A search produced a small vial and a plastic container containing six baggies of suspected cocaine, according to a post on the Department’s Facebook page, totaling approximately 6.76 grams. The suspect told police the drugs were for personal use and that he “admitted to using them while drinking and watching sports.”

The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he provided a breath sample, according to the Facebook post. He blew a 0.20 BAC.


On April 28, a stolen 2004 GMC Savana was recovered after it set off the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Richmond. Police found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was confirmed using the VIN. The suspect was arrested and found to be on probation in Alameda County. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle and a probation violation.


On April 24, approximately $3,000 worth of tools were reported stolen from the back of parked Ford F-250 on Bellevue Avenue. There’s no information on a suspect, according to Captain Monahan.


On April 25, Piedmont Police observed a green 2004 Subaru Forester driving at a high rate of speed on Grand at 1:39 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said the officer followed the vehicle and observed it weave in and out of its lane and also stop in the middle of the road multiple times.

The vehicle was pulled over and the suspect was arrested for DUI and taken to Santa Rita Jail. A passenger was picked up by an Uber.


On April 26, Piedmont Police observed a gray 2015 Mazda 3 driving on Grand Avenue and weaving in and out of its lane at 1:29 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said an officer followed the vehicle and observed it weaving some more. The vehicle was pulled over on Olive Avenue.

The driver was arrested on DUI.


On April 26, a vehicle was reported to be rifled through while parked on Cambridge Way at 2 a.m. The victim reported no damage to the vehicle but reported a loss of $750 worth of clothing and miscellaneous items.


On May 1, an orange 2010 Honda Fit was reported stolen on Winsor Avenue. The driver was delivering food and left the vehicle running at 7:44 p.m. When he returned to where the vehicle was parked, it was gone.
