Exedra photographer Julie Reichle and reporter Damin Esper spent some time at Piedmont’s single voting location, Veterans’ Memorial Hall, on Tuesday, Nov. 4. New procedures were in place this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ron Rodrigues works for the Alameda County Registrar of Voters, in charge of the Veteran’s Building AVL (Accessible Voting Location). “We have a lot of people who want to vote the old-fashioned way,” he said. “It’s hard to compare (to past years) because Piedmont normally has six locations.” AVLs are accessible to anyone in the county, he said.
“We have a table out here to remind people to wear their masks, encourage them to wear gloves because they’re touching a lot of surfaces in there. One-time use pens. One-time use styli. The registrar hired a cleaning crew that bounces between AVLs.”
