Piedmont fights through tough matches
Piedmont High School’s girls lacrosse team split a pair of close matches, falling to Dublin in overtime and then defeating Berkeley.
On March 28, the Highlanders defeated the Yellowjackets, 10-8. Chloe Graham and Peyton Watson each scored three goals to lead Piedmont. Friedie Schickedanz scored twice and Luisa Cole and Olive Litwin added single goals.
Sophie Santander had four saves.
Whitney Borovicka and Violet Potts scored three goals apiece for Berkeley. Nella Shear and Ava Witchi each had a goal. Tallulah Andersen had seven saves for the Yellowjackets.
The Highlanders had a 6-5 lead at halftime. It was 8-7 entering the fourth quarter. Litwin scored with 10 minutes, 37 seconds left to give Piedmont a two-goal margin. Borovicka answered just 34 seconds later. Schickedanz scored with 6:13 left and the Highlanders held on for the win.
The Gaels Kailie Kanoho scored the game winning goal with 2:35 left in the overtime period. That was her fourth of the game. Kanoho also scored early in the fourth quarter to give Dublin a 9-6 lead. Schickedanz, Watson and Graham then scored consecutive goals to tie the match and force overtime.
Schickedanz finished with four goals and Watson had three. Graham had two. Santander had 10 saves.
Kristen Chun had three goals for the Gaels. Olivia Choe had five saves.
Piedmont was next scheduled to host Lick-Wilmerding-San Francisco on April 1. The Highlanders will be at Bishop O’Dowd on April 4.
