The PHS Advanced Acting class is presenting a new play — “The Grown-Ups” — on Wednesday April 2, Thursday April 3, and Friday April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Drama Classroom (the 2nd level of the Alan Harvey Theater).
Authors Simon Henriques and Skylar Fox wrote “The Grown-Ups” during Covid and began presenting it in their backyard for 20 audience members at a time. The authors wanted to “push the boundaries of what theatre can do to tell demandingly vulnerable stories powerfully.” Time Out New York gave the production 4 stars and dubbed it, “The coolest new play you probably can’t see.”
At PHS, 40 audience members per night will sit around “a fire” with the actors, who are playing camp counselors trying to mold tomorrow’s leaders as tomorrow appears bleaker and bleaker. This immersive play is “part apocalyptic play, part satire, and part scary story,” — best for audiences aged 14 and older.
“The Grown-Ups” is directed by Friedie Schickedanz and Jake Hanke, and features seniors Sophie Hess, Ben Sachs, Dahlia Saffouri, Mary Schickedanz, and Louisa Symkowick.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, with $10 for students/seniors. Since there are only 40 tickets available per night, please let us know in advance if you have an extra ticket so that we can give it to someone on the waiting list for that evening.
