Boys golf | Piedmont takes 12th at major tournament

Piedmont High School’s boys golf team came in 12th out of 27 schools at the 26th annual Spring Golf Classic at Monarch Bay Golf Course on March 24.

Derek Lee led the way, shooing an even-par 71 to tie for sixth out of 135 in the individual leaders. Julien Porter shot a 79 to tie for 49th . River Bloemker shot 85 (tied-73rd) and Jackson Van Kleeck and Charlie Wright shot 86 (tied-75th).

The Highlanders overall score was 407. San Ramon Valley won the tournament with a score of 354, followed by Dougherty Valley at 363 and Foothill at 365. Bishop O’Dowd was the top West Alameda County Conference school, finishing fifth at 380.

San Ramon Valley had the top two finishers, with Jude Johnson and Jack Heuer both shooting 68 and Johnson winning out. Bishop O’Dowd’s Theron Amey was third with a 70.

Piedmont is 4-3 in WACC play and will next host Alameda and Encinal on April 2 at Lake Chabot Golf Course.
