Police issue press release on Nov. 27 Cybertruck crash

The Piedmont Police Department issued a press release regarding the Nov. 27 crash of a Cybertruck that killed three Piedmont High School graduates and injured a fourth.

The crash killed the driver, Soren Dixon, as well as passengers Jack Nelson and Krysta Tsukahara. Passenger Jordan Miller was pulled from the vehicle before police or fire department personnel arrived and survived the crash.

The press release was released at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. It reported that investigations by the California Highway Patrol, the Piedmont Fire Department and the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau have been completed. It said the Piedmont Police Department investigation continues.

The CHP concluded that “a combination of alcohol and drugs, along with unsafe speed, were contributing factors to the cause of this collision.”

Much of the rest of the information has already been reported. The County Coroner’s report was released earlier in February. It reported alcohol and cocaine in the systems of all three of the deceased.

Police said a smartphone alert reported the accident at 3:08 a.m. A 911 call followed shortly thereafter reporting a crash on Hampton Road between Sea View and King avenues. “Officers arrived at the scene at 3:10 a.m. and found a Tesla Cybertruck fully engulfed in flames,” the press release stated.

The release said police attempted to put out the fire and rescue the occupants. The fire department arrived at 3:16 a.m. and were able to extinguish the flames inside the vehicle “while working to make access for rescue,” according to the release.

The three victims were declared dead on the scene. The survivor was taken to a nearby hospital.

The release said the CHP’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has an ongoing investigation.

The Coroner’s office report said all three victims died of smoke inhalation with the thermal injuries contributing. No mention was made of any role of the impact of the collision in the deaths.
