Every year in March, each of Piedmont’s five Scout troops hosts an open house for youth (and their parents) fifth grade and up, to choose which troop to join. Twenty percent of youth in our town participate in a Scouting program — you can find out if Scouting is right for your family by attending a causal information session throughout the week of Feb. 10.
Get answers to questions like:
- Now that Scouting America has been open to girls for several years, how is it going?
- What is it like for a girl to be part of a troop?
- How is the 5th-12th grade program different from Cub Scouts?
- My family has no experience in the outdoors. Will you teach my kid?
- How can my child balance sports, academics, and Scouting?
- What’s with the uniforms?
- How does Scouting teach service to others and develop leadership skills?
- My family isn’t religious. Does that matter?
- How does Scouting welcome ALL children?
- How does Scouting make sure my child is safe?
- How does scouting facilitate multi-age friendships and connection?
Each informational meeting is open to all, though we welcome parents of 5th grade kids from Piedmont’s specific elementary schools on the following dates at 7:30 p.m.: Feb. 10 – Wildwood Parent Info Session; Feb. 11 – Beach Parent Info Session; Feb. 12 – Havens Parent Info Session.
Leading each informational session is Piedmont Council’s own Glen Tripp. Glen currently serves on the Piedmont Council Board as its Vice President of Scouts BSA. For seven years he acted as Scoutmaster for Piedmont’s Troop 15. A former Scout and Eagle himself, both of Glen’s sons achieved the rank of Eagle in Troop 15. Glen has been through the Scouting program, has led a Troop, and has seen the incredible transformative impact that Scouting has on the lives of youth.
